Abama Solidaria

Proceeds are focused on the social and environmental spheres of our community.

We also work through our charitable organization, Abama Solidaria, to support initiatives in coordination with the Ayuntamiento de Guía de Isora.

We have an ecological Green Team Abama dedicated to promoting sustainable actions together with other organizations and entities on the island. In 2021 we worked with Ámate Tenerife to support their activities in the fight against breast cancer; we coordinated actions with local food banks; we worked on behalf of vulnerable children and the elderly; we supported the Blood Bank; we promoted recycling programs and initiatives to have a clean beach and to protect birds and whales, among many other activities.

Green Team Abama

Committed to the holistic meaning of sustainability and sustainable construction, at Abama we set annual goals to be met in every part of the resort. We also work through our charitable organization, Abama Solidaria, to support initiatives in coordination with the Town Hall of Guía de Isora.

This initiative was launched to channel Abama's solidarity work and raise funds for the many valuable projects that the Town Hall of Guía de Isora considers a priority. Collections are focused on the social and environmental spheres of our community.

Golf

Abama Golf, was also the first golf course in Spain to receive the IAGTO quality certification from the World Golf Tour Operators Organization.

In 2017, it was the first golf course in Tenerife to obtain an EMAS certificate from the European Union, which means that its administration has an environmental management system in place and that specific objectives, goals and programs have been created for the continuous improvement of environmental performance. Abama Golf also holds the ISO:14001 environmental certificate.

Abama Golf and Las Terrazas de Abama Suites have obtained the Biosphere Committed recognition that endorses their efforts to comply with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations as well as the guidelines of the Paris Climate Summit.

Las Terrazas de Abama Suites

Our Gourmet Shop offers "zero kilometer" products produced within a 100 km radius, organic, without chemical additives and distributed through environmentally friendly transportation practices.

Las Terrazas de Abama Suites has also made contributions to the Red Cross and has supported vulnerable populations in Guía de Isora. Currently, the hotel is participating in a bird conservation project in Abama with the Ornithological Society of the Canary Islands and collaborating with the San Juan Association to support people in need of special psychological care. It also supports the Ámate Tenerife initiative and local food banks.

In 2022 it obtained the Biosphere Sustainable Lifestyle certificate, which recognizes the initiatives carried out by the resort to contribute to the care of the environment. Specifically, it rewards its contribution to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the agenda set by the United Nations in 2030.

Las Terrazas de Abama Suites

Scope of the integrated management system

Based on requirement 4.3 of the UNE-EN ISO 9.001 and UNE-EN ISO 14.001 standards, Las Terrazas de Abama Suites, in order to establish the scope of the study, must determine the limits and applicability of the integrated management system (IMS).

Thus, the scope of the UNE-EN ISO 9.001 and UNE-EN ISO 14.001 standards applicable to our facilities includes all activities, products and services associated with the organisation, as well as the following infrastructure: Social Club, 14 flat blocks and the rest of the associated infrastructure.

Requirement 8.3 "Design and development of products and services" of the UNE-EN ISO 9.001 standard is excluded from the scope of the SIG as no service, activity or product is carried out in this sense.

Furthermore, within the scope of our IMS, the context of the organisation, the needs and expectations of the interested parties and the legal requirements or other requirements applicable to our sector have also been considered.

Las Terrazas de Abama Suites

Quality and environmental policy

The management of Las Terrazas de Abama Suites, an organization dedicated to the provision of accommodation services, aware of its environmental impact and the need to provide a competitive service that meets the expectations of our customers, establishes this quality and environmental policy, which aims to implement continuous improvement to ensure a satisfactory experience to users of our services with the least possible environmental impact.

To this end, Las Terrazas de Abama Suites assumes as its own the following principles in the performance of its activities:
• Continuous improvement of processes and the search for alternatives that allow for ever greater environmental sustainability of our activities.
• Compliance and constant updating of the requirements derived from environmental and other legislation applicable to the activities of Las Terrazas de Abama Suites, as well as the commitments acquired with our clients.
• Involvement of all the staff of the organization in the achievement of quality objectives and continuous improvement processes.
• Prevention of pollution inherent to the services offered by Las Terrazas de Abama Suites and the complementary activities developed in our facilities.
• Ensure communication with stakeholders on the environmental performance of our company.

Assuming its commitment, the management ensures the availability of the necessary means and resources for the establishment, evaluation and achievement of those objectives that allow the development of the guiding principles of our commitment to quality and the environment.

This policy will be reviewed at least once a year and updated when changes are deemed to have occurred. In addition, it will be available to interested parties, defining the channels of communication.

The management of Las Terrazas de Abama Suites shows its commitment through this statement and is responsible for ensuring that the system is understood, implemented and kept up to date at all levels of the organization.

EL PRIMER VIAJE

We have joined El primer viaje, an initiative for the protection of the Cory's shearwater and other seabirds in the Canary Islands.

Our commitment to sustainability has already led us to act in areas such as reducing atmospheric emissions, waste reduction and the consumption of water and chemical products, among others, and now we are also trying to intervene in one of the specific problems of biodiversity in our territory.

Every year thousands of Cory's shearwaters (Calonectris diomedea borealis), a protected species included in the List of Wild Species and in the Canary Islands Catalogue of Protected Species and the most abundant in the Canary Islands, come to our territory to breed. It breeds in cliffs, ravines and midlands and when the young have grown, their parents leave the nest and they must begin their first flight towards their natural habitat, the sea. For their first journey, they are guided by the moon and the stars and it is at that moment when the artificial lighting of our coasts causes them to become disorientated and they fall to the ground. They are seabirds and do not have the capacity to take flight again from land, so they are exposed to other threats such as being run over and predation.

This is a massive phenomenon that takes place every year in the Canary Islands at the end of October and beginning of November and campaigns are carried out every year to protect them, in which many organisations and volunteers take part, coinciding with the release of the chicks. The participation of our hotel in the First Trip Initiative has two fundamental objectives: on the one hand, to undertake measures in our facilities to protect the birds, reducing outdoor lighting and activating protocols that, in the event of a fall, allow them to be recovered safely and in the shortest possible time, and, on the other hand, to launch information and awareness campaigns for our employees and clients on the problems of this species.

These actions on the biodiversity of our territory have a clear approach to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focused mainly with the protection of terrestrial and marine ecosystems, allowing us to move towards a more sustainable tourism and exposing our commitment to provide an effective and honest response to the challenges that our business activity poses to us.
